29th at the south end. Not a lot seen on a two hour sea watch on the falling tide, best being 28 Cormorants, 7 Guillemots, 32 Sandwich Terns, 2 Common Terns, 11 Gannets, Red-throated Diver, Arctic Skua and 14 Wigeon. A party of 10 Siskins arrived off the sea.
30th:- Highlights of a one hour sea watch, again on the falling tide were 48 Gannets, 11 Cormorants, 2 Red-throated Divers, 2 Eiders, 25 Common Scoters, 4 Wigeon, 12 Brent Geese, Guillemot, Sandwich Tern and Great Skua. On the landward side were 3 Kestrels, Peregrine, Spotted Flycatcher, Grasshopper Warbler, Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrests, 5 Lesser Redpolls and a Lapland Bunting.

Very quiet. Before the rain came the only birds noted were Common Redstart, Rock Pipit, Brambling, 5 Goldcrests, Swift, Red-throated Diver and Mediterranean Gull.

Better conditions for actually watching birds at the south end today. Some visible passage to the south included 51 Linnets, 65 Starlings and 295 Swallows. Also 132 Starlings north. Migrants seen were 15 Robins, 20 Goldcrests, 10 Song Thrushes, 4 Blackbirds, 9 Chiffchaffs, Willow Warbler, Sedge Warbler, 5 Common Redstarts and Whinchat. Some of the regular species were in improved numbers with more tits and Wrens in evidence and 30+ Dunnocks and 120 Skylarks. Other noteworthy species on the dunes were Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Water Rails, 2 Sparrowhawks, 3 Kestrels and 13 Greenfinches. On the coastal fields were 265 Golden Plovers, 35 Curlews and an adult Mediterranean Gull. Sea much quieter than of late. At least 400 Common Scoters from the south landed offshore.

Plenty of migrants today, including 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, but hard work in the strong winds:
Migrants found at the south end were 25 Goldcrests, 12 Robins, 5 Common Redstarts, 3 Song Thrushes, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs, Brambling, Tree Pipit and Pied Flycatcher. One Yellow-browed was in the willow hedge by North Flash and the other was in hawthorns south of the coastguard cottages. Other birds of interest on the dunes included Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 34 Swallows, 8 House Martins and a Sparrowhawk. At sea, 250 Common Scoters, one Velvet Scoter, 50 Gannets and a Great Skua were recorded.

A much better day with an arrival of migrants apparent at dawn. There were two Pied Flycatchers east of Stonebridge and another at Pyes Hall (Geoff Williams) along with a single Spotted Flycatcher, the first two Brambling of the autumn, 30 Robins, 10 Goldcrests, 8 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers,3 Blackcaps a Buzzard, Hobby, 210 Pink-footed Geese went south along with 7 Whooper Swans just after dawn. A Bonxie was offshore.

Today moving mostly south after coming in from the rivermouth were 290 Swallows, 260 House Martins and 30 Meadow Pipits. Also on the dunes were 3 Goldcrests, 2 Robins, 3 Blackbirds, Sparrowhawk and Great Spotted Woodpecker. At sea were 12 Gannets, 3 Sandwich Terns, Arctic Skua, 11 Red-throated Divers, 6 Cormorants, 13 Wigeon, 110 Teal and 120 Common Scoters. Onshore were 90 Oystercatchers, 15 Curlews and 18 Knot.
